Manteno Elementary School Makerspace
Parents and Community Members,
We have a vision at Manteno Elementary School to create a space dedicated to STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts and Math) and provide students with opportunities to work collaboratively, experiment, tinker, explore through inquiry, and problem-solve. Within the space, our plan is to incorporate a range of materials from low-tech arts and crafts to high-tech software and electronics for students of all grade levels. Other schools who have created these opportunities for students have labeled the room a ‘makerspace’. We have many ideas, but the biggest challenge we face is funding the space.
Working with our PTO
Over the years, our PTO has been gracious in supporting our classrooms and students. They have provided items such as: novels, STEM bin activities, and flexible seating options. Through fundraising events, such as the annual Walk-a-Thon, the PTO would like to help support and fund the Makerspace room, which would be open to all students and classrooms within Manteno Elementary School.
Examples of Potential Stations In Our Makerspace:
Our list of ideas is always evolving. Any support is welcomed and appreciated! We hope the Makerspace creates a community of “makers” at Manteno Elementary. Thank you for your support - it is what makes Manteno Elementary School such an amazing place!
PTO Scholarship applications are due at the High School Guidance Counselor's office by the end of day, Friday, April 12. We will be awarding two $500 scholarships to graduating high school seniors. Visit our Forms page to download the application.
